Panning – Drums

Panning done correctly can help create a musical and interesting mix.  Not to mention it gives each instrument its own space in the frequency spectrum.  Some panning is very common for drums.  Fro example kick drum is almost always panned dead center.  The snare is a choice for the mixing engineer as I have seen it panned center or just slightly off center.  I like panning my drums in the “Audience” perspective meaning as I were in front of the band listening to the performance.  Here is an example that I found on the ADG Mastering website (http://www.adgmastering.com/how-to-pan-instruments-in-recording-mix/) that I find following when mixing drums.  Also very important to think how you want the listener to hear the drums before the recording process.
